I'M HERE

Well here I am.  New. York. City.

Let's start at the beginning... Tuesday night I spent the night printing out resumes and headshots and getting them ready for NYC!  Because when you audition you should have your resume/headshot a certain way, industry standard is an 8x10 headshot that is stapled with a staple on top and bottom to your resume on the back, which is trimmed to fit.  And that's how it is done!  It takes forever and its super annoying but you gotta do what you gotta do because following the "rules" is what gets you noticed (as it did in my casting call today... more about that later.)

So I wake up early Wed. morning to my Papa telling me its time to go do our chores.  I reluctantly drag myself out of bed and we go to work and the bank and the store and run a bunch of errands.  By the time I get home I have time to shower and get dressed and then I have to finish packing up!
We weigh my suitcase on our Wii Fit board because we don't have a scale and it is TWELVE POUNDS OVER.  Fail.  So I dump the non essentials... conditioner... sweatshirt... a bunch of socks.  My suitcase still ends up being six pounds over but the fee was only $25 instead of $50.  WTF airlines?  Seriously.  I need my leopard striped hoody and now it is still at my parent's house.  LAME.

So we load up into the car, me and the 'rents and it is off to Detroit we go!  Dad and I listen to NPR "Fresh Air" where Joseph Gordon-Levitt is interviewed about his upcoming movie 50/50 which looks awesome!  Also, I definitely have a huge crush on him, he's so cute and super talented and artsy which I love.  Someday... bahaha.
And Mom plays Pocket Legends >.<

The airport is... intense.  I am excited and nervous and sad.  Hugging Mom and Dad goodbye was way, way, way tough.  Daddy starts crying and I start crying and I just wish I could bring them with me cause they are THE BEST PARENTS IN THE WORLD but it is time to go and it is time to cut the cord and it is time to be on my own.  Even though I wish they were closer.  After the emotional goodbye its nice to get through to the other side and focus on the next step: the flight.

The airplane ride is uneventful, I fall asleep and when we land at LGA its crazy because the runway is right off the water so you look like you're going to land in the water!  We sit on the runway and the bags take forever and then I'm finally in a cab with the window down
it
is
amazing.

I see the city skyline and the Statue of Liberty and cars and people and buildings and graffiti and I remember how much I LOVE the city (I lived in London for a summer) and I can't believe it took me this long to get here.  I literally tear up because I am filled with the joy and the happiness and the excitement of being here.
I arrive safely to Sarah's apartment in Brooklyn and am super happy to see her.  She lives with her cousin, Jacob, who is a fun guy, and they're apartment is a good size and doesn't have cockroaches!  Knockonwood.
We take one of Sarah's extra mattresses and put it on the floor in their "dining room" (it doesn't have a table) and my "room" is officially born.  I'm kinda like a hobo in their living room.  Anyway the apartment is super cute and hopefully when Sarah leaves in December I can just take her room and be familiar with everything, that would be way awesome.

So after chilling and chatting with Sarah we go out dressed up to meet Mitchell (my best friend from high school who has been living and modeling in NYC for the past fourish years... he was my prom date!) at a restaurant/bar called Cipriani's.  Of course it starts misty raining which is not cool, and we get wet boo!  When we get to the restaurant we drop a name are are led upstairs into the roped off section and given all the champagne and vodka we want, the music is blasting and its pretty legit.  We meet a promoter named Jose who is in charge of getting pretty girls into clubs.  Sarah and I have a few glasses and by this time it is late late and I'm totally exhausted from traveling all day, so we say goodnight.  I get home to my cozy hobo bed and fall right asleep.  First day in NYC was definitely a success!

I wake up at around 9:30 to a sunny day.  Sarah and I bop around and get ready for the day-her for school and a meeting and me for my first casting call!  We head to the subway and she leaves, so I am officially on my own.  No big deal because I'm used to subways and people and cities and at least I don't look like a tourist with a big fanny pack and cargo shorts and a giant backpack.
I get off the subway and walk right past 30 Rock which is awesome... maybe someday I'll be in there filming (SNL perhaps?) I find the audition easy enough, thanks to GPS [side note: HOW DO PEOPLE SURVIVE WITHOUT SMART PHONES?!] and wait in line. For. An. Hour.  I chat up the lady in front of me who just happens to be a filmmaker, hm, I give her my card.  Finally we are let in the building... to wait in line again.  They have us sign in and the casting lady asks for all actors with a headshot and resume.  As you know from earlier I'm prepared with the industry standard and ready to GO!  And my headshot looks goooood if I do say so myself (plug for LEXI KAY REED that woman took amazing pictures of me, love her!).
I hand in my resume and get a positive response, she checks my availability and says she will call me.
And that's it.
That's how its done kids!  Wait for an hour to hand in your resume and hope for the best.

Now on the way out I start chatting up another fellow from the casting call, Mr. Santino... an Italian model and actor who takes me to Starbucks and buys me a coffee (yes, this is my life-2nd day in the city).  We end up chatting for almost TWO HOURS about castings and acting and life and this business.
And yes, he is quite, quite handsome.

I head home, still kinda tired from the traveling and everything and get back and spend the rest of the night APPLYING FOR AUDITIONS!  On a million sites.  So far I have like five more lined up for the next few days.

We also watch Jersey Shore, order a pizza and laugh at the Domino's pizza tracker, which is kinda awesome, and watch "Conspiracy Theory" which is why I get yelled at for typing this giant blog entry.  I'm not really paying attention, but it is quite intense.

So far I am loving every single minute.  Tomorrow is another casting call, grocery shopping (finally) and hopefully meeting the man who is my new boss!

Who could ask for more?  <3

ONE MORE DAY

What a crazy few months it has been.

I leave for New York City

TOMORROW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Crazy.  So crazy.  And packing is way intense...

So for everyone who wants to know, I am moving out to the city with no job, no place to stay, and no money.  Faith and dreams and hope is what I got.
Okay, that is a slight exaggeration.  I have some money saved up and I'm crashing with my best friend from college and I have a few job leads.  But it is pretty much get up and go.  And I'm not gonna lie, I'm pretty terrified.
And pretty freaking excited.

So right now I'm attempting to pack as much as I can into my suitcase and backpack, the two items I'm taking on the plane.  There's no point in trying to bring more cause I don't have a room yet.  Then I have to pack everything else into boxes for the rents to ship out as soon as I find a more permanent place to live.
Packing is rough!  I'm super tired because for the past week or so I have been barely sleeping as I try to say goodbye to everyone.  I just want to lay down, but we are leaving the house tomorrow at 10:30am so I need to pack right meow.

NEXT TIME I POST I WILL BE IN NEW YORK CITY!
Hell yah.
